About Wilson

Founded in 1909 by the Rev. Henry B. Wilson, The Wilson School was conceived as an alternative to the public schools of his day. The Reverend Wilson introduced some quite advanced ideas for the turn-of-the-century.  He sought to create a welcoming, family-like environment, where empathy was valued. Today, The Wilson School continues the tradition he started, providing a sound, value-oriented education in a supportive, friendly yet challenging atmosphere.

A Bond Between Home and School

At every grade level, The Wilson School focuses on the individual student and family, creating a bond between home and school. The School emphasizes a closely-monitored, individualized approach to education, building a program that is suited to his or her own intellectual, social, physical, and moral growth. Because the program is tailored to the unique needs of the individual and of his or her particular age group, each student works at a developmentally appropriate level throughout the curriculum.

The School is characterized by a balanced, structured academic and extracurricular program, supported by teachers who have the time and resources to attend to each student. High expectations, self-discipline, empathy, warmth, and love of learning are imparted within a vibrant, supportive classroom setting. Subject areas are often integrated, and teachers work as teams.
Kept closely informed, parents become partners in the education process.

At Wilson, each student is respected and valued. Recognized as a learner with individual developmental needs, strengths, and weaknesses, every student is encouraged to reach for his or her full potential. That is the Wilson goal.
