The
school’s curriculum is based on four integrated areas of focus, adapted to the
educational and emotional needs of each grade (reflecting
Gardner
’s work in Multiple Intelligences): Academic, Social,
Creative and Physical learning.
At The Wilson School, the curriculum in the Lower School (grades PK through
4) is organized in two-grade instructional units. Lower School teaching teams
utilize a two teacher group in PK/K, and a three teacher group in
Grades 1
through 4.
The Middle School curriculum also incorporates teaching teams, and
involves considerable overlap, so that most of the core curriculum teachers in
the Middle School serve in more than one instructional unit. We have developed
our curriculum with each child's cognitive, affective, social and physical
development in mind. We have also incorporated the concept of multiple
intelligences and how our students use them to learn, into each core and
co-curricular curriculum.

Academic
In the
Lower
School
, students develop competence and confidence in language arts, mathematics,
science, social studies research and organizational skills.
In the Middle School,
students are prepared to succeed in a high school environment through an
academically rigorous curriculum that also takes learning styles into
consideration and allows each student to develop his or her personal
areas of expertise. Top |

Social
We recognize that a healthy self-esteem and full respect for others are
critical components in the learning experience. The value we place on
respect ensures that children at all ages experience the kind of safe,
supportive environment on which both childhood development and adult
well-being depend. Students
also develop respect for others’ diversity in community and social
outreach programs throughout the school
year.

Creative
From Pre-Kindergarten
through 8th Grade,
Wilson
students experience the challenge, discipline, and heightened sense of
accomplishment from public speaking and performance on stage and in a
range of musical groups. Artistic, dramatic, and musical creativity and
self-expression are continuously woven into the curriculum at each grade
level. Many students take advantage of individual instrumental lessons
as well.

Physical
All students develop physical strength and confidence through classes in
soccer, baseball, softball, fencing swimming, yoga, and Tae Kwon Do. The
Wilson
School
volleyball team has been undefeated in four consecutive years of
interscholastic competition. For the past five years, the
Wilson
School
has ranked first in the State of
New Jersey
in their category for the percentage of students achieving the
Presidential Physical Fitness Award.
