

LOCAL TALENT MAKES THE LIST OF
STATE CHAMPIONS FIVE YEARS IN A ROW

– For the fifth straight year in a row, the
Wilson
School
was named a Category I State Champion winner of the Presidential Physical
Fitness award for the 2006-2007 academic year.
Joining the roster of Statewide winners are local youths
Mckenzie Melius, Amina Rehman and Gabrielle and Lyle Poisson of Boonton
Township, Kimberly Yi, Devon Chapman and Brendan James of Boonton, Dylan, Lyndon
and Justin Liang of Mountain Lakes, Lynnea and Athena Doshi of Randolph, Adam
Franklin of Kinnelon, and Lynnea and Athena Doshi of Randolph.
33% of the student body at the
Wilson
School
made the Presidential Fitness status, up from 25% the prior year.
In order to make the cut, students across the country are required to
satisfactorily complete five physical tests given to students, ages 6-17
throughout the
U.S.
The tests include
the “V” sit, which tests for flexibility; push-ups and/or pull-ups which
test arm and chest strength; curl-ups which check the stomach muscles; the
mile-run and the shuttle-run for long and short distance running.
The students receiving the Presidential Award have achieved
at or above the 95th percentile in each of the tested areas. The
Wilson
School
had the highest percentage of students earning this award for five years in a
row in the State of
New Jersey
in Category I level, which includes schools of up to 200 students.

fine performing arts.
