Don't wait: Help the hungry today
To the Editor:
As a seventh-grade student at the Wilson School in Mountain Lakes, I would like to bring up an important issue that I think is constantly coming up: poverty. More and more people are becoming poor. Think about those less fortunate than you. Yes, I know, you probably hear enough about it from TV commercials and at supermarkets during the holiday season. But I think that sometimes the fact is not stressed enough. Nobody listens.
Here's a common question: How do I know that what I am donating to is a real charity and not a scam? Well, I have some suggestions. First, you know that any charity through a church is real, as are charities through hospitals and school fundraisers. Good charities spend at least 65 percent on their programs. Most charities do. Please help someone today, and remember, never be greedy.
