Informed kids will be better voters

November 2, 2008

To the Editor:

As a 7th grade student at the Wilson School in Mountain Lakes, I think more kids should be concerned about the presidential election.

Kids should have their own opinions on the issues based on what they read in the newspaper and hear on the news, not just what their parents think.

Many of the important issues of this election will directly affect our generation when we grow up, and kids should learn about them now so they can make an informed vote later.

For example, we will be affected by things like the war in Iraq, the economy and the environment. Kids can learn more about the election by going to the candidates' Web sites to read about their views.

Our school is having a vote on election day to see which candidate our school would elect, and to get students interested in the issues. Whether or not your school is doing something similar, you should try it yourself to learn about what's at stake this election. It will make you a better voter in the future.
