Educating Today's Children for Tomorrow's World!
Creative Expression
Preparing your child for future success
Encouraging students to express themselves artistically is one of the hallmarks of a Wilson School education. We foster each child's artistic development through required classes in writing, visual art and music.
- The fine arts program is extensive, with countless bulletin boards bursting with student artwork.
- Students take required music classes each week and perform in recitals, concerts, Friday Chapel Programs and talent shows with a variety of instrumental and choral groups, including recorders, band and the hand chime choir. Over 40% of Wilson students take individual music lessons.
- In our unique "Composer of the Year" program, children in all grades perform the music and study the life and times of a famous composer. This year's composer is Franz Joseph Haydn. Previous composers include Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and Mozart.
- Annual Art show – This 30 year tradition boasts over 30 artists who work in many different mediums including paint, sculpture, jewelry, and mixed media. The art show gives our students the chance to interact with professional artists as well as learn how to organize, and execute a professional art show.
- All students perform on stage between 10 and 15 times per year in class plays and Friday Chapel Programs. Training in public speaking is emphasized in all grades. A highlight of the drama program is the 5th and 6th grade Shakespeare performance.
- Students express their creative writing styles by participating in our Writing Workshop and our Literary Magazine. Students write about topics in which they are interested, and are encouraged to submit their works to newspapers and other media outlets in order to get their work published.
