Emotional Intelligence

Preparing your child for future success

Developing a sense of empathy

Taking an interest in others is a vital skill students need to develop in order to become leaders in society. Wilson School parents see their children are mature rapidly right in front of their eyes. Integrating academics, values, creativity social and physical activities is what differentiates The Wilson School's academic program from that of other schools. One especially important emphasis is the need to look beyond oneself and consider the needs of others. This is practiced without the need for personal gain, but for the pleasure of helping through:

  • Leading – Respect for everyone and a small family environment at The Wilson School provide the perfect cultural setting for encouraging students to act as role models for their younger peers. Students participate in a mentor/protégé program that allows all students to learn from each other. Younger students gain by associating with successful, caring older students who see their own character grow through being a mentor to their young friends.
  • Sharing – Sharing ourselves with others. There are many special days and special ways that we share our joy and accomplishments throughout the year. Some of these include: the grandparents' day chapel, and taking the musical production of The Nutcracker to the local senior citizen center.
  • Reflecting – Chapel is our Friday program, a school assembly for students, where we gather as a school community to celebrate special events and share school spirit. On these special Fridays, our students share their talent through a Holiday Concert, French program, Talent Show, Spring Concert, and class plays for each grade. Students share thoughts for children around the world. There are numerous additional opportunities throughout the year for our students to share their writing, singing, fine arts, and performing arts talents with The Wilson community during our Chapel Programs. Parents and family members are always welcome to join us.
  • Giving is an important part of The Wilson philosophy. Being "grateful for what we have," sharing talents with our families as well as goods and with those less fortunate, continues the tradition established by Rev. and Mrs. Wilson in 1909. Our Thanksgiving Food Drive and March of Gifts program are examples of our ongoing efforts to reach out to the community.
