1. Why doesn’t Wilson raise tuition to cover the gap between tuition and the cost of educating a child?
Only 69% of the total cost of educating a child at The Wilson School was covered by tuition last year. The Wilson School must raise tuition sometimes, but tuition can’t cover the full cost of operating the school without seriously limiting the number of qualified students who can afford to attend. Supplementing tuition with the Annual Fund means we keep tuition in line while continuing to adhere to the Wilson ideals. Finally, a gift to the Wilson School Annual Fund is tax deductible; tuition is not.
2. Does the Wilson School receive any money from the State of New Jersey?
As an independent school, Wilson relies on contributions from you, the St. John’s/Wilson community. Last year we received approximately $10,000 in total (or approximately ½ of 1% of the total budget) from the State of New Jersey, and that amount will be lower this year. We receive no other kinds of government funding.
3. Does it matter when I pledge or make a gift to the school?
Yes, it does matter. An unrestricted gift or pledge made early in the school year is a great help because it tells us how much money we have available for the full school year, so we ask that gifts and pledges be made by December 31 if possible. Gifts and current pledges can be paid through the end of the school’s fiscal year, June 30. If you are considering or have already set up a bequest or some other type of planned giving, we’d appreciate your letting us know.
4. Is my gift to The Wilson School tax deductible?
The Wilson School is a 501(c)(3) organization and your gift is completely tax deductible.
