Social Concern

Preparing your child for future success

Becoming leaders in society

Being a good student goes well beyond simply getting passing grades; being a good student goes hand in hand with being a good citizen.

This Civic Literacy aspect of 21st Century Skills is emphasized on a daily basis in many ways:

SC
  • Increasing their awareness and understanding of other cultures as they attend classes and work with other students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Caring for the world around the corner and around the globe. The Wilson School encourages students to understand and empathize with the larger world community through activities such as Pajama Day for Leukemia and Darfur support programs and our annual March of Gifts.
  • Using technology effectively and appropriately is discussed on an age appropriate level. Children are engaged in frank and open discussions about protecting themselves while online, how to avoid identity theft and what it means to be cyber bully.
  • Taking pride in protecting the planet through Wilson School's recycling program.
SC
  • Having older students mentor and guide younger students further enhances social bonds and feeling of belonging.
  • Instilling feelings of morality and ethics through frequent and unique assembly programs. Students are treated to a variety of guest speakers who bring their worldly experience and knowledge to present to the students. This gives students a real sense of appreciation for all that they have and a feeling empathy for those who are less fortunate. Students are encouraged to give back to the community at large through various charitable and philanthropic ventures.
  • Being an overall good citizen by understanding the great responsibility that all of us have by doing our part to make the world a better place, a sense of self-worth and patriotism.
